In the Manchester, NH newspaper dated September 23, 1904, the headline read “HANDSOME GIFT WAS DEDICATED TUCKER FREE LIBRARY NOW IN HANDS OF TRUSTEES, UP TO DATE IN EVERY WAY.” During the morning of September 22m 1904 the library was open for public inspection. When the residents of Henniker voted to accept the gift of George Tucker at the 1903 Town Meeting, they formed not only a Board of Trustees to oversee the operation of the completed library, but also a building committee to steer the planning and construction of the new facility. It has been recounted that the committee toured several different libraries

LIBRARY HISTORY FACTS: Fannie W. Bennett was the librarian from 1921 to 1955. During her time as the librarian, the Tucker Free Library transacted its first INTERSTATE INTERLIBRARY LOAN (1932). Story time was cancelled and the library was closed for a period in 1940 because of Scarlet Fever. In January of 1941 the library was closed at 7PM instead of
March 2018 — TOWN MEETING MONTH
It is TOWN MEETING time in Henniker. All of the business of the town for the year is voted on by the legislative body (i.e., citizens) at this meeting. The Henniker Town Meeting is divided up into two activities; ballot voting and deliberation. The first involves voting for candidates as well as issues requiring the sanctity of private ballot results.
