Mathews draws the reader in with great characters; going beyond the clichés of Irish gangsters and paid assassins. Instead, in his prologue he wallops the reader with an atmospheric description of a mob-boss, his study, and the portrait of his mother that hangs over the mobster’s work.
I was immediately enamored with the writing; the depth of description leads the reader down Fifth Avenue, through Central Park, dancing in the big-band clubs where the music poured out nightly, and into the Irish tenements of NYC. READ MORE.
